MUSIC BOXES IN HONOUR OF THE
VISIT OF HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA TO LAUSANNE
Traditionally, the first offering to welcome the Dalai Lama’s
arrival is music, either accompanied with dance, song etc.
For this reason, the organizers created especially for this
event a music box, a typical object from the canton of Vaud,
in order to welcome His Holiness in a traditional way.

TIBETAN MUSIC
This original music box will be offered to the Dalai Lama
in Lausanne in August, while 108 copies of this unique masterpiece
will be reproduced and be for sale (each will be authenticated
by a certificate). The box is made of wood, and the interior
mechanism will play traditional Tibetan music. The cover
will read « Dalai Lama Lausanne 2009». The interior
of the music box will bear the coloured logo of the Rigdzin
Community (organizers of the event), as well as a quote
from His Holiness, which will be given during his visit
in Vaud. All boxes will be signed by Namkha Rinpoche, the
spiritual master of the Rigdzin Community, and by Kurt Kupper,
director of the Reuge manufacture, where these boxes will
be created, guaranteeing their authenticity. Reuge manufacture,
which specializes in music boxes and singing birds, is established
in Sainte-Croix, in the canton of Vaud, where their first
workshop was founded in 1865.
WHY 108 PIECES?
The number of copies reproduced is not by chance. 108 is
a very relevant number in Buddhist tradition: the mala is
a rosary with 108 beads, symbol of the 108 hardships suffered
by the Buddha in his path to enlightenment. Buddhists generally
speak of the 108 yoga positions and the 108 mudra, or ritual
gestures, of the tantra. It is also said that after the
Buddha’s death, Padmasambhava have hidden the 108
more holy scriptures revealed to him,
The price for each music box is 490 CHF. The money made
will be distributed to various humanitarian projects indicated
by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
You may reserve a music box (numbered from 1 to 108) by
e-mail at : vip@reuge.ch.
Please note that payment and delivery will be possible during
the event (August 4th-5th) in Malley, in Prilly / Lausanne.
